Remember last week when I went on, and on, and on about my best friends? This week, one of those friends, Emily Holland, is taking over Your Mom, sharing all about her bumpy road getting pregnant with her second child. Emily is a stylist and creative consultant, she lives in Brooklyn, and she’s the friend of a lifetime.
Before this all kicks off, I want to give a trigger warning - her post deals with pregnancy loss and infertility.
I love my kids more than I thought would be possible before I had them. I love being a mom. I think I always knew I wanted kids, but as the story goes, I was never in a crazy rush.
I moved to LA for school, then to NYC. Partied hard in my 20s while somehow building a solid-ish career. I got my shit together relationship-wise in my 30s and had my first baby, Mirasol, at 35. She was the best. Life really shifted with her birth. Work was great, but being a mom really did the thing for me. I just loved it.
Conceiving Mirasol was fairly straightforward. Conceiving my second was anything but.
